MAKOKOMO is a design brand and the commercial platform of STUDIO MURMUR a Chicago-based industrial design office. It is a way to explore the production, scale and distribution of things within the rapidly changing environmental, economic and social contexts that we currently occupy. This ‘dialogue’ results in these well-considered products that we bring directly to you for everyday living, working, and being.
We like the efficiency and scale of serial production and many of these pieces are manufactured that way. We also produce some limited runs and one-offs as we might find a process or collaboration that is better suited to smaller batches. All of our self-produced items are made in the USA working mostly with materials and people nearby.

The Altec Lansing heritage is synonymous with American innovation and quality. Our first foray into speaker design and construction is this versatile 2 way bass-reflex model. Based on the classic Altec Lansing utility cabinets, these updated 12” coaxial drivers compare to the Altec 601 and its later big brother the 604 Duplex. Built from beefy 18mm baltic birch, these high sensitivity (95-100dB) JBL 322c drivers pair well with low wattage amplifiers but can handle up to 400w if you go that way.
