Music has always been central to my everyday life and work. If asked about my design influences, I am more likely to cite Neil Young or Thelonious Monk than Dieter Rams or Achille Castiglioni. Many designers seem to share a passion for music. Form, composition, and texture are part of a common language where the ephemeral and durable are studied, produced and documented. The tools for creating music, recording and playback are not foreign to me. I’ve played and performed music for most of my life and there is almost always a tune playing inside my head somewhere. This journey reframes these two passions in a new exploration of artifacts, materials and fabrication of sound.
The MAKOKOMO brand is fluid, allowing us to experiment in commercial projects at a smaller scale than we might with clients and one that we feel is appropriate to this current endeavor. Our ambitions are small and enormous. You’ll see works in progress and some vintage objects for sale. We will be connecting to neighbors and friends in the music and audio world and hopefully with you as well
